You may be experiencing the prospect of starting over with a new counsellor and having to 'go through it all again' with someone new.
Or perhaps things need to change in overcoming grief, trauma or the way you are being treated - you know you're at a last resort and thinking...
‘am I really contemplating talking to a complete stranger about all this?’
I cannot (and never will) make any of your choices for you.
What I can do is warmly invite you to see if we can get to know one another to work in confidence, at a pace you decide works best.
These are paraphrases of some comments I've received:
'This is so hard. You know I get
upset during our sessions but
I know I'm doing the right thing.
I've never told anyone this stuff...
you don't seem phased by any of it.
'when I see you for counselling it’s different...you seem normal!'
'This isn’t how I expected therapy to be. I know it doesn't always look like it but I'm enjoying it. It's such a relief.
Sometimes I even laugh with you...
I did NOT expect that.'
'Look at us!! I'd never have even put us in the same room together, let alone for counselling!
It's weird...
I’m glad...but surprised!'
'I didn’t know what the problem was but I knew it had to stop.
It was killing me.
It’s different now.
I feel lighter.'
'I will come back for counselling with you again -
even if I think I don't need it
...that's how I ended up here
in the first place.'
