As a counsellor and therapist I’ve worked with teenagers right up to adults in their eighties in a range of educational, clinical and corporate settings, all of which have put my skills and experience to their best use on offer. Those living with anxiety, complex trauma, survivors of abuse, bereavement and clients experiencing life-threatening and terminal diagnoses have all worked with me on either long term and open-ended bases, or short-term counselling for just a few sessions depending on clinical requirements and/or client need.
As a young adult I trained in the performing arts, learning skills to easily tap in to expression of feeling in a clear and straight forward way - sometimes with lightness, sometimes with deep reflection and
always working towards our human connection...just how it happens in everyday life,
trying our best with what we have going on -
we never truly know what's going on for another person as we move through our own lives and
very few people truly know what's going on for us...unless we find a way to talk about it.
As my client, we begin to share the story of your life and what might be troubling you and use that as our guide - as much or as little as you choose, as and when
thoughts and feelings emerge...however you choose to express them.
I see this as our time to explore your way of being in whichever way feels right for you.
As well as my background in the arts, I have over 25 years’ experience in the high pressure environments of the corporate working world whilst working in the city in the communications and banking sectors. I worked from grass roots up to Director level. I fully understand the stressful pressures of
the business & commerce working life - delivering on deadlines while you're
trying to understand and be understood at work, home...and life in general.
I’ve worked in very large corporations and small-team working environments as well as working from home, learning to understand the complexities of working alone when
your personal life still happens all around you (and within you).
Imposter syndrome, workplace burnout and perfectionism are all present in these institutional atmospheres, sometimes eating away at a sense of Self.
With over 30 years’ experience also working with children and young adults in the education industry (and in recent years particularly in Higher Education), I bring a detailed depth of capability and capacity,
having worked with people at all stages of their lives following early childhood.
I've been a workshop facilitator both online and in person working with schools, universities and in the corporate sector curating, delivering and facilitating interactive, in-depth work, offering
optimum conditions for a person’s chance of self-discovery, acceptance and growth.
When I work with you I meet you as the unique individual I believe you are.
I accept whoever the ‘you’ is you might choose to share with me. I have a wide range of experience in working with people who look, live and have different kinds of cultures, beliefs and personal preferences to me.
I’ve experienced how external differences can sometimes bring us closer together -
especially as we move deeper in to the work -
noticing that a common enemy can often emerge as a person’s barrier to change for whatever reason.
Returning to my original place of study to work with young adults proved to be the catalyst for my journey in becoming a therapist. In my personal life, it began to slowly dawn on me how and
why I'd been processing things the way I had up to that point.
I began to wonder what my life might have been like if I’d experienced counselling as a young man.
As part of my training and now ongoing, I’ve had extensive personal therapy. I am aware of the potential journey available to you via first-hand experience with my own counsellors and therapists.
It is potential: there are no guarantees, just like anything in life.
But if you’re feeling stuck, unable to process past or current events and you’re looking for change or growth, I warmly invite you to see if we might share some time for you to begin to create your own measure of success - perhaps taking the reins back on your life.
My world of experience and experience of the of the world, both as client and counsellor
provide me with the tools to make the changes I need for myself.
I offer you the you chance to pick up the tools you already have in working towards resolving the effects of abuse and trauma in your life moving forwards, and to
consider the change and growth you'd like to see happen.
Mid-September sees the launch of my local community men’s counselling group
'Men’s Talk' - for all men from all walks of life
as part of the GFMA community service in Charlton.
I will also embark on an MSc research project in September exploring the impact of the Manosphere on men, women, boys and girls both in the therapy room and society at large - domestically and internationally.
My experience of working with young adults has shaped the way
my practice is deeply rooted in
adult disconnect, especially in education and workplace mis-management.
